Framing Techniques

Framing Techniques
When filming a documentary there are a few things to think about :
  • ANGLE
  • PERSPECTIVE
  • FRAMING
  • LIGHTING
Angle
Angle is something that needs to be considered when filming a documentary.
You need to think what angles you will film from when creating each of your different clips, you should plan out what angle you will film at at that specific scene.

Perspective
When filming a documentary you should show not your own perspective but a third person perspective, so what other people will see when looking at the object in this specific scene.
You first need to plan what perspective you will how whether you want to do a third person perspective or you want to do it as first so how you see it.

Framing
When filming the documentary you need to think about where you will pan the camera and where the camera will pan towards.
You need to plan the scenes out and each different scene should pan somewhere new.
The most used pan is panning from side to side as this is the most effective panning angle to use.

Lighting
The lighting is something that is very important when filming a documentary because this can be very important, It is important when you are filming because if you have already filmed the footage and then you look through the video it could either be too light or too dark.

These are the different Camera Angles:
  • Birds Eye View - This is a view from above
  • High View - This is when you are high up (e.g on top of a building)
  • Neutral View - This is a view from ground level
  • Low View - This is when you are low down like when your on your knees
  • Worm's Eye View - This is when you are really low down, when you either are laying down or you have the camera placed on the floor.
